Nazi occupied Poland. Joanna, whose husband died fighting the Germans, takes care of an abandoned Jewish girl. The girl’s presence in the house is a source of constant fear. Gradually, people turn their backs on Joanna. Friends become enemies. Soon, Joanna becomes a victim of denunciation. During the search of her apartment, a German officer takes an interest in her and discovers her secret.
